22 Things people once believed about women’s bodies

People used to believe a lot of things that now seem completely bizarre to us, thanks to modern science. Most people today would scoff at someone saying the earth is flat or that everything in the universe revolves around it, even though that’s what most people believed just a few centuries ago. People today also know that bloodletting is not a good healthcare practice, that there is no secret process with which to create the philosopher’s stone, and that smoking is terrible for your health.

Some of the strangest beliefs, however, revolved around some truly outlandish things about women and their bodies. Many of these beliefs stemmed from superstition and the patriarchal concept of women being naturally inferior to men. While science still hasn’t proven all the mysteries of the universe, it has definitely debunked all of these old-fashioned theories!

1…Menstruating women can kill swarms of bees

Ancient Roman author, philosopher, and naturalist Pliny the Elder compiled an encyclopedia, titled Natural History, in which he devoted a section to the various “powers” that menstruating women allegedly possess.

As Pliny believed, a woman on her period is a force to be reckoned with. Side effects of a woman’s time of the month include cursing plants in her path, dimming the “brightness of mirrors,” driving dogs crazy, and killing swarms of bees. According to his writings, iron would rust, ivory would lose its polish, and steel blades would be made blunt. If a woman’s menstrual fluid somehow was exposed to lightning during a thunderstorm, the storm would be driven away by the power of the woman’s flow.

It is scary to think about living in a time when the female body was so misunderstood. While women today have it much better than they did in the past, things are still far from perfect.

A recent global study showed that three out of four women believe their country has unequal rights. Nearly half of the women in the world say that they do not personally feel they have equal status to men. One in five people still believe that women are inferior to men.

We might live in a more enlightened time, but there is still work to be done.

2…Women have fewer teeth than men

It wasn’t just the ancient Romans who held unflattering views of women. The ancient Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, has had a huge impact on Western philosophy. While hailed as a great thinker and teacher, his views on women were more than a little problematic.

For a man regarded as a scientist, Aristotle had some pretty unscientific views about women. A woman was believed by Aristotle to be an “incomplete” version of a man, and even had fewer teeth than their male counterparts.

According to Aristotle’s social hierarchy, women were ranked higher than slaves, but below men. In Politics, the philosopher argued that men are superior as they possess “intellectual virtue in completeness.” Women, according to Aristotle, were meant to serve men because they were physically and intellectually inferior to them.

3…Women have wandering wombs

Another ancient Greek, the physician Hippocrates, deserves the credit for identifying the “disorder” of hysteria. The term “hysteria” was a catch-all phrase that described pretty much anything that went awry with a woman’s mental or physical health. The cause? A “wandering uterus.”

For centuries, people believed that a woman’s womb roamed all over her body like a living parasite. Aristotle used the diagnosis of hysteria to further discredit women. Yet another ancient Greek, Aretaeus of Cappadocia said that the womb is “closely resembling an animal” and “moves itself hither and thither.” Even after people understood more about the human body and its functions, hysteria continued to be used as a diagnosis.

4…Women don’t have sexual urges

The idea of hysteria persisted through the Victorian Age. Sex during this time was such a taboo topic that it seems like people went out of their way to deny that it was anything but a mechanical process. While men might indulge their sexual urges, such desires in women were considered to be low class. Sex was a burden that women were meant to endure, not enjoy. A popular (though fictional) anecdote has Queen Victoria advising one of her daughters that on her wedding night she should “lie back and think of England.”

Sexual impulses were so repressed, that women went to the doctor to be relieved of their “hysteria.” Symptoms included erotic fantasies, irritability, and wetness between the legs. Doctors would manually stimulate the woman’s clitoris to induce “paroxysm.” This treatment for hysteria led to the invention of the vibrator. Despite all of this, no one involved admitted that women had sexual needs and that doctors were not providing a needed medical treatment, but were, instead, giving women orgasms.

5…Self-pleasure leads to being flat-chested

In the Victorian era, masturbation was a huge no-no. Some of the myths about touching yourself down there are still spread as old wives’ tales. People today don’t really believe that the practice will drive you insane, or make you grow hair on your hands, though these rumors still persist.

But back in the Victorian era, however, people thought that stimulating oneself was not only immoral but could lead to developmental delays, such as girls being flat-chested. John Cowan wrote in The Science of a New Life that “girls who have followed masturbating habits…show usually strong indications of it in the failure of their glandular development. Such persons are apt to be flat-breasted, or, as we term it, flat-chested.”

Myths about the harms of solo-sex were so pervasive that people went to great lengths to prevent their children from touching their private parts. Devices were marketed to prevent masturbation, and doctors even performed clitoridectomies on young girls to prevent the practice.

6…Reading makes women infertile

In contrast to modern women who tend to outnumber men in universities in much of the world, it was once thought that women who read too much would be rendered infertile. This theory was widely spread by a Harvard professor named Edward H. Clarke who wrote in Sex in Education, or A Fair Chance For The Girls that, while women are capable of learning, too much book learning could lead to infertility and irritability. Clarke recommended that girls receive limited schooling so as not to damage their health or baby-making abilities.

Thankfully, well-educated women took it upon themselves to disprove Clarke’s theories. An 1885 study by Annie Howes, of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae, and an 1887 paper by Mary Putnam Jacobi, debunked Clarke’s treatise.

7…Viewing ugly things while pregnant makes ugly babies

In the 18th century, many people thought that the things a woman thought could affect what her baby looked like. In The Pregnant Imagination, Fetal Rights, and Women’s Bodies: A Historical Inquiry, Julia Epstein writes that there was a debate over whether or not “imaginative activity in the minds of pregnant women could explain birthmarks and birth malformations.”

Many people thought that a woman could directly influence the appearance of her child and that looking at unattractive things could cause the child to be born, well, unattractive. It was widely recommended that women avoid “unwholesome” things, lest they deform their developing child.

8…A woman on her period is unclean

The idea that a woman on her period is somehow unclean dates back to antiquity. According to the book of Leviticus in the Bible, not only was a woman on her period unclean, but so was everything she wore and touched. The thirteenth century De Secretis Mulierum (The Secrets of Women) was written by a man claiming to be a monk, Albertus Magnus. According to Magnus, “Menstrual matter is extremely venomous” and a woman on her period gives off “fumes” which can poison children.

These ideas persisted in Western culture through the 20th century, well past the point you’d think people would have dismissed such clearly irrational thinking. In the 1920s, a doctor named Bela Schick described “menotoxin,” an alleged “menstrual toxin” that was secreted in a menstruating woman’s sweat and had the power to cause flowers to wilt. Other “studies” claimed that menotoxin in breast milk caused colic in infants and that a woman who was “menotoxic” during pregnancy gave her baby asthma.

9…Tampons can make women lose their virginity

This myth is still getting some traction, even though there is no truth to it. When Tampax was introduced in the 1930s, many people thought that they shouldn’t be used by young girls. The main fear of moral conservatives was that inserting a tampon would result in the loss of virginity.

Consumer Reports released an article in the 1940s telling people that it was okay for virgins to use tampons. In case there’s still any confusion, the only thing that can make someone lose their virginity is actually having sex.

10…Only willing women can get pregnant

This myth is particularly terrifying, in that many people still believe it. In 2012, Missouri Congressman Todd Akin claimed that rape victims can’t get pregnant since in a “legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”

Akin isn’t the only modern politician to have expressed that idea. In 1995, North Carolina state representative Henry Aldridge, said that women “who are truly raped” cannot conceive a child as “the juices don’t flow” and “the body functions don’t work.” In 1998, Republican Senate candidate Fay Boozman said that stress of assault will trigger a biochemical response in rape victims that makes conception next to impossible. Pennsylvania state legislator Stephen Freind claimed in 1988 that the odds of a rape victim becoming pregnant were “one in millions and millions and millions.”

The impossibility of rape leading to conception has been used as a legal defense since at least the 13th century. Vanessa Heggie, a historian at the University of Birmingham, wrote in a blog piece for The Guardian that Fleta, a British legal text from that time period, says “without a woman’s consent she could not conceive.”

11…Women’s brains are smaller and less capable

Women fought a long and arduous battle to win the right to vote. It wasn’t until 1920 that women in the United States were allowed to cast a ballot, and Switzerland’s women couldn’t vote until 1971.

One of the reasons given for not allowing women to vote was that their smaller brains made them mentally inferior to men. Members of anti-suffragist movements such as the National Association Opposed to Women’s Suffrage (NAOWS) claimed that women did not have the capacity to understand politics and therefore should not be given the right to vote. This idea was so accepted that even women believed it and joined anti-suffragist groups, lending some credibility to a claim on a pamphlet issued by the NAOWS that most women had no interest on how the country was run.

Women’s brains function just as well as men’s brains. They are physically smaller on average, but this correlates to body size and has no impact on intelligence.

12…Female virgins can cure men with venereal diseases

A long-held belief that some people still have faith in is the idea that sleeping with a virgin will cure a person of a disease. There is, of course, no credence to this belief, but it has resulted in the abuse of countless young women throughout history.

People in England and the United States believed well into the twentieth century that sleeping with a young virgin would cure them of syphilis and other venereal diseases. The virgin’s pure and untouched state was somehow thought to have restorative properties that would be transferred to the afflicted man. Even more alarming is the fact that many of the men who sought out young girls for such purposes believed that the disease would be cured in him but passed on to the girl.

In modern times, there are still men who believe in this myth. Men afflicted with AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa along with parts of India and Thailand have reportedly sought out young girls in search of this “cure.”

13…Infertility is all the woman’s fault

Women in ancient Egypt were generally viewed as equal to men, but that doesn’t mean that their society understood how women’s bodies worked. Ancient Egyptians were particularly perplexed by what made a woman fertile and assumed that a couple’s ability to conceive rested solely on the woman. It was thought that women with wide hips and large breasts were more fertile than those with narrow hips and flatter chests.

In order to test a woman’s fertility, a clove of garlic or an onion would be placed inside a woman’s vagina. That belief was that if the woman was, fertile her uterus would be linked to her alimentary canal and her breath would smell like garlic or onion the next day. If the smell of garlic or onion didn’t travel to her mouth, then the woman was blocked and would not be able to conceive. This particular fertility test was also utilized by the ancient Greeks.

14…Exercise is dangerous for women

Strenuous activity was thought to be dangerous for women as it could harm their reproductive parts. It was the general consensus of the Berlin Medical Association in the 19th century that the “ailing health” of women during menstruation and pregnancy was proof that they were the weaker (and therefore inferior) gender.

One 19th century German doctor strongly advised against girls jump-roping as “it made the feet flat, damaged the lungs, and caused twisting of the bowels as well as chronic headaches.” A director of a 19th century gymnastics teachers training institute agreed that women should avoid “exercise which requires sudden and jerking movements… on account of the particular position of the female reproductive organs.”

15..Breast milk is coagulated menstrual blood

From ancient times through the Middle Ages, most people thought that breastfed babies were being given blood. The dominant belief in these times was that breast milk and menstrual blood are the same substance, but that breast milk “had been heated, coagulated, and whitened by hot air.” This bizarre idea persisted for centuries and was taught by prominent philosophers including Aristotle and Galen, and can also be found in the Jewish Talmud.

16…The uterus has seven cells

Before people understood the science behind reproduction, they believed that a baby’s sex depended on which chamber of the uterus it was carried in. It was commonly believed that the uterus had seven chambers or cells, with the right three developing males and the left three developing females. If a baby developed in the center cell, it would be intersex, having both male and female features. The concept of the seven-chambered uterus reigned throughout the Middle Ages and persisted long after anatomical dissection proved that there is only one space in the uterus.

Renaissance thinkers eventually replaced the debunked myth with even more ridiculous notions. They believed that the father’s sperm turned the mother’s menstrual blood into milk which also formed the fetus. In order to ensure male offspring, women were encouraged to eat “hot” foods, while foods such as fish and fruit (characterized as “humid” and “cold”) were to be avoided as they could form a female child. It was also thought that sex (provided it was gentle enough not to harm the baby) could help to develop a baby boy due to the exposure to a male presence.

17…Menstrual blood has special powers

Menstruation has long been one of the most mysterious and misunderstood aspects of the human body. Many believed that menstrual blood has special powers; the 12th century mystic Hildegard of Bingen believed that it could be used to cure leprosy. In ancient Egypt, menstrual blood was thought to have healing properties and was used in the production of medicines. It was also used in an ointment which served to protect babies from evil powers. Indigenous South Americans believed that menstrual blood was the source from which “all mankind was created,” a belief that was also present in Mesopotamia.

18…Pregnancy mood swings are caused by an “irritable” uterus

Pregnancy can be marked by mood swings, thanks to all the hormones coursing through your body. In the 18th and 19th centuries, though, people thought that changes in mood were because “the event of conception stimulated the womb, creating an excitability which in turn affected other organs.”

Thomas Denman, a prominent physician, said that the uterus was prone to “extreme irritability.” The other organs were thought to be so in-tune with the uterus that they would experience sympathy pains, causing morning sickness and the swelling of the breasts. The uterus was thought to also affect a woman’s emotions because “of this general and perpetual irritation,” causing a woman carrying a child to be “sometimes rendered less gentle and patient than is consistent with their usual character.”

19...Female flesh is “spongier” than a man’s

In ancient times, it was thought that women had porous skin, which prevented them from becoming as strong as men. Proof of this could supposedly be found in the breasts, as a woman’s body could hold more moisture than a man’s causing the breasts to swell and grow. It was also believed that when a person was on the verge of madness, blood would collect in the breasts. Since women could hold more blood in their breasts, they were therefore considered to be more likely to be irrational than men.

Men were believed to use up more of the fluids they consumed through physical activity while women instead retained moisture in their “spongy” flesh. Excess fluid would collect in the body and eventually be discharged as menstrual blood. This theory was used to promote the idea that women’s bodies are biologically inferior to men’s.

20…Bad personalities are the fault of the ovaries

If a woman had a bad personality, it was all chalked up to malfunctioning reproductive organs. In the 18th century, it was commonly thought that a woman’s personality was “dominated by her ovaries,” and that “female disorders” could be treated by simply removing them.

Women were frequently subjected to operations to remove their ovaries (and sometimes their clitoris) in order to treat gynecological symptoms. Such operations were also performed for the purpose of “controlling psychological disorders.” Ovaries were removed “for relief of…nervous (psychological) symptoms, menstrual dysfunction, and convulsions.” Ovariotomies were performed on tens of thousands of women in this time period.

At the time, epilepsy was thought to be caused by masturbation, therefore the removal of the clitoris was thought to “cure” the affliction. Clitordectomies were also used to treat “disorders” such as nymphomania and epilepsy. While ovariotomy was discredited as a treatment for psychological disorders by 1906, clitoridectomy was an accepted practice in the United States as late as 1948.

21…Menstrual blood is evil leaving the body

In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was believed that menstrual blood accumulated in the body became “corrupted” and would “attain a malignant and venomous quality.” Menstruation, therefore, was “a monthly purging of those evil humours.”

Women who entered menopause and no longer menstruated each month were thought to be potentially harboring these “evil humours” which were “capable of adding to that complex of female wickedness which could turn aging women into witches.” Because of this, older women were often viewed with suspicion; most of the women accused of witchcraft in Europe during this time were past the age of menopause.

22…We still have work to do

It is scary to think about living in a time when the female body was so misunderstood. While women today have it much better than they did in the past, things are still far from perfect.

A recent global study showed that three out of four women believe their country has unequal rights. Nearly half of the women in the world say that they do not personally feel they have equal status to men. One in five people still believe that women are inferior to men.

We might live in a more enlightened time, but there is still work to be done.

Henry Sapiecha

There is something to be said for the vintage feel of many so-called boudoir photo sessions. They can take virtually any person, regardless of all physical aspects, and turn them into something soft, sensual, and almost mysterious. Aside from the fact that most celebrities- on this list or not- are all of those things anyway, boudoir photos take it to the next level. Simply put, they ooze sex appeal, probably because they involve bedrooms, lingerie and/or full nudity, and a come-hither air made complete by the pouty lips and bewitching sort of look that seem to be typical of this sort of photo shoot.

Boudoir photography is no longer just for the rich and the famous. Increasingly, it is becoming something women do for a wedding gift for their fiancés/husbands, or something they do for themselves just for fun, kind of like a new and improved alternative to Glamour Shots (remember those?). And why not? These photos are fun, frisky, and can be tailored to each individual, using props or backgrounds or outfits to make each and every boudoir shoot unique.

Below I present to you 15 of the most beautiful women in Hollywood- both models and actresses- all of whom have engaged in one type of boudoir photo session or another. Their beauty and their bodies are highlighted by the nature of these photos, and I think that by the end of it, all of them will be even more attractive in your eyes, having seen them in this new yet classic light. I know they were to me.

1. Emily Ratajkowski

Emily-Ratajkowski-on-bed image

English actress and model Emily Ratajkowski is probably best known for playing Andie Hardy in Gone Girl (she was the student-turned-homewrecker who got with Ben Affleck’s character). But she has done more modeling than anything, which is perhaps why this boudoir photo of her (one of many to choose from) is so perfect. It is one of those things in life that is perfect because of its imperfections; this photo seems more real than a lot of the ones I came across. For example, Emily is not perfectly or overly made-up; she looks natural. The bedroom is not one from a fantasy, her hair looks really messy (not sexy-messy), and she is not even wearing uber-sexy lingerie, which like the imperfect being perfect, is actually sexier. Her silk top leaves more to the imagination, and her high-topped lace panties show off her curves and flat tummy. And that pose? Now that is worthy of one of the “perfect” boudoir shots, but I still like this one better.

2…Miranda Kerr

miranda-kerr-on-bed image

Guys seem to appreciate a woman who wears their shirt around the house… and nothing else. It is its own variation of less-is-more, if you think about it, and it totally works. Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr knows how to make it work for sure. Usually all dolled up and strutting her stuff on the catwalk, it is nice to see this more laid-back- but still very sexy- Miranda, sitting innocently in bed, wearing only a men’s button-up. Now a button-up alone may or may not be sexy, but the way she has it open, not one single button done, and is posing with her legs folded is quite enticing. The dimpled angel-face hails from Down Under, and she used to be a gymnast when she was younger, which may explain her awesome physique. But she is also scandalous; she released nude photos of her ex-husband Orlando Bloom onto the internet, so don’t mess with this chick!

3…Eliza Dushku

Eliza-Dushku-on-bed image

Now that is a come-hither little smirk if I ever saw one! Beautiful Eliza Dushku of Dollhouse fame certainly looks dollish in this boudoir pic. Her ringlets are perfect, and her bra, panties, and thigh-highs all fit perfectly, as if they were made for her body. Eliza wears a flattering amount of makeup- not too much, not too little- and seduces the camera with those eyes that are essentially pools of sex. Lying on some kind of very soft blanket, she looks very comfortable and as if she is beckoning someone to come join her for a frolic in the throw. Known for her throaty voice and playing confident characters, Eliza has always been a tomboy at heart, although you wouldn’t know it from this picture. But sexually speaking, she knows what she likes: “I love leather and it’s great to be a bad girl at times. But there is a time and a place for everything. When I’m with Grandma, it’s flowers, and when I’m out in town scoping guys, you know…”

4…Marion Cotillard

Marion-Cotillard-on-bed image

The fact that actress Marion Cotillard is French makes her all the more alluring, especially when she opens her mouth and that sexy accent comes rolling off her tongue. This dark-haired, blue-eyed beauty looks sensational in this photo, lying on peach silk and wearing black and animal-print lingerie. Her face appears unamused, but that is kind of the mood of the photo, don’t you think? Shiny curls, blood-red nails, shadowy eye makeup, sequined heels, and a pose to die for on the bed, this boudoir shot oozes sex appeal. She often plays femme fatales (in A Private Affair, A Very Long Engagement, The Black Box, Inception, Midnight in Paris, Macbeth, and The Dark Knight Rises) and it is easy to see why. But she is not a fan of doing love scenes. Marion says, “I was always reluctant to shoot love scenes…. But in Rust and Bone we had very naked love scenes, and it was totally different… The whole day I was naked on set and I was totally fine with it.” I wonder if she feels the same about a naked (or near-naked) photo shoot?

5…Kate Beckinsale

Kate-Beckinsale-on-bed image

A lot of guys have a thing for Kate Beckinsale, and the reason should be obvious. The Underworld actress is fiiiine. In this boudoir photo, she looks a little sassy, and all kinds of hot. The barefoot, bed-ready beauty is keeping with the theme of simplicity for her boudoir shoot, if you notice. Bright white light streaming through a wall of windows, white linens, a white, off-the-shoulder dress, wavy hair worn down, and minimal make-up are the key features of this photo, and yet all you notice is her face and her body, nothing else. It, like her, is gorgeous. Not surprisingly, Kate has been ranked highly on all sorts of hot lists over the years, such as Most Desirable Women, Sexiest Women in the World, and Hot 100

6…Ashley Olsen

Ashley-Olsen-on-bed image

The Olsen twins, whom Ashley Olsen is one half of, are known now for being kind of oddballs, quite contrary to their bubbly, cutesie image during their childhood and teenage years. We are used to seeing photos of them as adults that make them look more alien-like than the 20-something fashionistas they are. But in this photo, Ashley, while still looking a bit disturbed, is appealing in a way that is different from both the creepy and the cute ways she usually is. Who knows? Maybe it can be attributed to the fact that there is only one of her in this picture, but then there is also her petite, curled-up figure, unclothed from the waist down. And that disturbed look is also wistful, and musing, and preoccupied, as if she has something on her mind other than fashion, boys, or Mary-Kate. And that is sexy, much more so than her frock-wearing, bug-eyed, purse-lipped norm.

7…Laetitia Casta

Laetitia-Casta-on-bed image

French model Laetitia Casta looks like she is just waiting for her man to walk through the door; she is all dolled up and sitting on the edge of the bed looking oh-so feminine. The black of her unique lingerie contrasts her fair skin nicely, and the heels add to the length of her already impossibly long legs, legs that in this photo are just begging to be wrapped around a man. Her hair off to one side, a forlorn look on her gorgeous face, and the seemingly wistful strength that this photo portrays all add to the beauty of it, as does the brownish-purple filter that falls somewhere between color and black and white. Interestingly, Laetitia is known for her blue eyes, curvaceous figure, and brilliant smile, but in this picture, you can see none of these things. Nonetheless, it is just as charming as any of the others where those things are all evident. That is the mark of a great model, I suppose; to be able to convey all kinds of emotion and not only that which you are good at.

8…Kristin Kreuk

Kristin-Kreuk-on-bed image

Kristin Kreuk is mostly famous for playing Lana Lang on the CW superhero show Smallville from 2001-2009. The stunning actress, who is of Chinese and Dutch descent, poses for her boudoir photo wearing fishnets, heels, and an off-the-shoulder sweater that you know does not cover everything in front. Her pout, her curls, and her demure look all scream seduction. That she sits on the back of a sofa, in front of a cityscape backdrop, all in black and white, only adds to the feeling of this photo. Kristin has a few different boudoir shots out there, mostly in black and white, and all of them just as pretty as this one. In the others, she is posed just as suggestively, but on a bed and wearing black lingerie. As nice as they are though, there is something about this particular shot that is a little something different than the “norm” for the boudoir photo.

9…Kaley Cuoco

Kaley-Cuoco-sexy image

She can hang with the geeks on The Big Bang Theory, she can play a witch on Charmed, and apparently, she can be quite the temptress in a boudoir photo shoot, as well. I am so accustomed now to her snarky character of Penny on The Big Bang Theory that I never would have pictured her this way, but she is quite lovely. Tastefully done, this photo really brings out her features- the smooth skin, big eyes, shapely brows, and full lips that all work together to create her harmonious visage. Less is more, as they say, and in this case it is the truth. With only a sheet, and her hair pinned back, she wears only a pair of studded earrings, and because there is nothing else to focus on her but her and her alone, her beauty is a lot more obvious. It is one boudoir photo that is sexy, but not necessarily sexual.

10…Isla Fisher

Isla-Fisher-on-couch-pose image

Everyone’s favorite red-head stuns in this simple yet elegant shot. Kind of smiling and kind of not, Isla appears relaxed, lying on a divan. Her milky white skin glows in the soft light, underneath a layer or two of sandy-colored dress. Her jewelry minimal, her hair messy-sexy, her chocolate eyes smoldering, this photo is all-around flattering of Isla, who most recently played Karen in the 2016 movie Keeping Up with the Joneses. That Sacha Baron Cohen is one lucky man to have this beauty as his wife, and upon seeing this picture, he or any man would likely have the urge to climb right in beside her on that plushy cushion. Unlike some models or actresses, Isla retains her kind face even when posing for a photo shoot, and even when the shoot is supposed to be an enticing boudoir one.

11…Minka Kelly

Minka-Kelly-sexy-pose image

Minka Kelly is one of those drop-dead gorgeous women who is so pretty, people sometimes fail to notice that her body is equally worthy of awe. I love that in this boudoir photo, her body is the focus, as her face, while still beautiful, is essentially expressionless, giving the spotlight to her tan shape. The shadows play out well across her legs, toned stomach, and perky breasts, and the girly white lingerie helps, as Minka’s dark locks flow over her skin and the lace. In the background a bed sits waiting, not a main focus of the picture but just there so it is in the back of our mind. A wakeboarder and horseback rider, Minka says she knew she was not cut out for modeling (I beg to differ) because, “I’m too short. I’ve got a big butt. It wasn’t going to happen.” I think she would have done just fine, at least judging by this picture.

12…Eva Mendes

Eva-Mendes-sexy-pose image

Cuban-American actress Eva Mendes is known for her curvaceous and buxom figure, and while this photo does not highlight her bust, her curves sure stand out. You would never guess by looking at this sultry photo that the woman in it used to want to be a nun! Shockingly, the beguiling figure in fishnets who appears almost mischievous, once wanted to do the work of God. That is, until she learned that nuns do not get paid. Then she moved onto her second choice- acting. It has clearly fared well for her, and now Eva is better off anyway, as she does not “believe in the institution of marriage”, something that would likely not have gone over well with the other nuns (or the big man upstairs). She has been dating Ryan Gosling for five years, and the two have two girls together.

13…Yvonne Strahovski

Yvonne-Strahovski-sexy-pose image

Yvonne Strahovski is the second woman on this list who is from Australia, although her family immigrated there from Poland. The blonde beauty did a boudoir shoot, and she looks, as usual, absolutely stunning. The setting is an interesting choice, taking the theme of less-is-more to a whole new level, as the bed does not even have a mattress. Yvonne herself does not have any clothes, pajamas, or lingerie, but nor is she nude. Wearing what appears to be a black, long-sleeved leotard, earrings, and leopard-print heels of at least four inches, this is a different kind of boudoir photo, but it is beautiful just the same. Yvonne’s perfect body that we see here is the result of a lifetime of being a tomboy and being physical. In her own words, “I’ve been very physical my whole life. I went out hiking and camping for days in the Australian forest, and when I trained at drama school for three years, we did a whole lot on stage-fighting techniques. And I was a dancer for five to 18.” She also calls herself “pretty gross and crude.” You cannot tell by this photo, though!

14…Angelina Jolie

Angelina-Jolie-sexy-smile-pose image

Often called the Most Beautiful Woman in the World, Angelina Jolie wows no matter what she is wearing (or not wearing) in any photo or photo shoot. That is obvious. Though her recent divorce from Brad Pitt has largely taken over gossip headlines this year, these photos from a boudoir-esque photo session when Ang was younger by 20 or so years deserve a little attention too. Just look at that radiant smile. She is modeling, and maybe faking it, but you cannot tell because she honestly looks happy. Wrapped in some kind of sheer, shimmery dress and perhaps in the middle of changing, this boudoir shoot was done in what looks to be a regular bedroom, albeit one with a vintage feel. There is nothing extraordinary about the photo at all, except that Angelina glows, and looking at it, it is hard to imagine she ever played dark characters at all, like Maleficent, Salt, or Mrs. Smith. Or that in her real life, she was a homewrecker (sorry; despite her global humanitarian efforts, I am and always have been Team Jen. But that is not to say Ang doesn’t look sweet, because she does).

15…Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett-Johansson-bed-pose image

Everyone loves them some ScarJo, and she is undoubtedly beautiful. But in this boudoir photo, she almost doesn’t look like her. She retains her beauty of course, but she looks nostalgic, almost melancholy. That facial expression along with her short curls and dreamy eye makeup is a far cry from Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Jordan Two Delta, Lucy, or any of the other strong characters she has played. But here, dripping with diamonds, sheathed in a transparent lavender dress, her feet hugged by yellow heels, Scarlett is the blushing picture of the damsel-in-distress, romantic type. She looks more like her character of Griet in The Girl with the Pearl Earring or Charlotte in Lost in Translation than she does her upcoming role of Major Motoko Kusanagi in 2017’s Ghost in the Shell. Either way, however- coy or aggressive, demure or bold- everything suits her just fine.

15…Miranda Kerr

miranda-kerr-on-bed image

16…Eliza Dushku

17…Marion Cotillard

18…Kate Beckinsale

12 Things Women In Saudi Arabia Cannot Do

saudi-women-in-burkas image

Reportedly, no less than 18 women in Saudi Arabia were elected to municipal councils in ballots held on December 12, 2015. It’s the first time women were allowed to stand for office or vote in the country’s history. Although the vote is a landmark for the ultra-conservative kingdom, its women’s daily lives remain severely restricted. Here are 12 things women in Saudi Arabia are still unable to do!

1. Go anywhere without a male chaperone

Rooted in the thought “giving movement freedom to women would make them vulnerable to sins”, women’s all errands, including shopping trips and visits to the doctor, need to be accompanied by a male guardian, often relative. There’s one extreme case that a teenage girl who had been gang-raped was given harsher punishment than the rapists because she was not with a chaperone when it occurred.

2. Drive a car

Though there’s no official law banning women from driving, the deeply held religious beliefs prohibit it, arguing female drivers “undermine social values.” In 2011, a group of Saudi women launched the “Women2Drive” campaign, encouraging women to drive a car, but they are only allowed to drive their children to school or a family member to the hospital.

3. Wear clothes or makeup that “show off their beauty”

Strictly governed by the Islamic law, the majority of Saudi women were forced to wear an abaya – a long black cloak – and a black head scarf. If they failed to cover the face, they would probably be harassed for exposing too much flesh or wearing too much makeup, though the face does not necessarily need to be covered. The Shoura Council, king’s advisory body, ruled that women should wear “modest” clothes that do not “show off their beauty.”

4. Interact with men

Saudi women are restricted in the amount of time spent with men they are unrelated to. The majority of the public buildings including offices, banks, universities and most of the public transportation, parks and beaches are segregated for men and women. Unlawful mixing will lead to criminal charges against both parties, but women typically face harsher punishment.

5. Go for a swim

A Reuters correspondent once tried to use the gym and pool at an upmarket Riyadh hotel. And she such described her experience: “As a woman, I wasn’t even allowed to look at them (‘there are men in swimsuits there,’ a hotel staffer told me with horror) – let alone use them.”

6. Compete freely in sports

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia proposed hosting an Olympic Games without women because in their belief women cannot compete in sports. When Saudi female athletes attended the London games for the first time, hard-line clerics denounced them as “prostitutes”. Meanwhile, they had to be accompanied by a male guardian and wear a “Sharia-compliant” sports kit covering their hair.

7. Try on clothes when shopping

Maureen Dowd, a Vanity Fair writer, once said in “A Girl’s Guide to Saudi Arabia”: “The mere thought of a disrobed woman behind a dressing-room door is apparently too much for men to handle.”

8. Entering a cemetery

9. Reading an uncensored fashion magazine

10. Buying a Barbie doll

11. Working in a lingerie shop

Though some stores have recently begun hiring female employees, the majority are still staffed by men.

12. Open a bank account without her husband’s permission

Luckily, things in Saudi Arabia now are slowly starting to modernise, and “women are highly educated and qualified”, says Rothna Begum from Human Right Watch, “They don’t want to be left in the dark.”

It’s a scene many women will be familiar with, and photographer Rupi Kaur proved a point when part of her series about taboos and periods was censored by Instagram for “violating community guidelines”. Her response on Facebook went viral ?I know that some communities and cultures go out of their way to shun and oppress a woman on her period. I guess Instagram is another one of them. Their patriarchy is leaking. Their misogyny is leaking. We will not be censored.?

But Instagram seem to be ok with man pubes.”

From exotic travel locations to risky sports to having babies, there's an awful lot you're expected to do in the last year of your 20s image

From exotic travel locations to risky sports to having babies, there’s an awful lot you’re expected to do in the last year of your 20s.” Photo: Stocksy

If you’re on the cusp of your fourth decade on this earth, chances are you’re up to the eyeballs in opinions about what you simply must do by the time you turn 30. From exotic travel locations to risky sports to having babies (yes, this week,we’re back in the good old bad old days where babies need to be popped out, pronto), there’s an awful lot you’re expected to do in the last year of your 20s.

Take this list of “30 Experiences You Should Have Before You Turn 30”: evidently your average aspiring 30-year-old needs to run a half-marathon, go skinny dipping, take an improv class (?), test drive their dream car (??), and learn to bartend (???) – among other things – before the clock strikes [whatever time you were born] on the final day of your 29th year.

(I was under the impression that an improv class was less an “experience” than an endurance test, but to each their own.) (6)

Yes, from financial decisions to wardrobe items to music festivals to essential smallgoods to eat, there’s an unending well of “before you turn 30”-related content out there; enough to cause an existential crisis in even the most well-lived 29-year-old.

So, as a person quickly approaching the eve of my third-annual 30th birthday crisis talks, I’d like to offer a different slant on the ticking time bomb: here are six things you should forget about once you turn 30.

Talking Shit About People

Yes, there’s a certain bonding quality in getting together and ragging on what such-and-such wore to the work Christmas In July party (etc). But once you get a bit of distance, you may come to realise there’s nothing more tragic than a group of professional adults whipping each other into a frenzy of bitchiness (trust me, just spend a day on Twitter). That’s not to say you need to become saintlike in your day-to-day interactions, but just take a step back and take stock of how much of your time and energy is taken up by whining or griping: chances are you’ll be surprised.

Worrying About Solo Travel

The truth about group travel, as anyone who has ever travelled with friends or a partner will tell you, is frequent arguments, an irritating commitment to itineraries and inevitable griping about where to have dinner. Solo travel, for all its occasional moments of crushing loneliness (shout out to sobbing in New York doorways or on the Tube), is just really not that scary. I realise this is drifting perilously close to “you must try solo travel once you turn 30” territory but, really, trust me: it’s the best.

Going Bungee Jumping

“Go bungee jumping” is such a naff, late-’90s tourism campaign idea of letting loose and letting go of your inhibitions (see also: skinny dipping, parasailing, certain brands of backpacking) before adulthood comes knocking. Do you think Marianne Faithfull’s Ballad Of Lucy Jordan would have been so poignant if the eponymous 37-year-old was mourning the fact she’d never jump off a bridge into a river rather than driving through Paris with the warm wind in her hair? Plus, I mean, why stop there: take up stunt driving or BASE jumping or build a rocket. In your 30s, it’s time to reassess your commitment to your extreme lifestyle.

Whether Or Not Your Bum Looks Big In That

I vividly remember waking up on the day of my 30th birthday: after decades of fretting about whether or not my body looked “right”, I looked in the mirror at my stretch marks, grey hairs and the fact my arse was slowly disappearing into my thighs, and I thought, “Not bad”. Don’t worry about turning into a “YOU GO GIRL!!” model of body positivity, because it’s perfectly reasonable to also think you look like an old sock filled with corks on any given day, but rather try to treat yourself with kindness and respect. Your body has made it through at least 30 years, and it deserves a hug.

Dating “Bad Guys”

By “bad guy”, I don’t mean the dude from your drama class who wore a leather jacket, smoked and once combed his hair with water from the toilet bowl. No, I mean guys (and gals) who are emotionally withholding, manipulative, sulky, mean or stingy, or all of the above if you’ve picked a real winner. It’s time, in your 30s, to realise you are worth more than the crumbs of love that some gadabout scrapes off the table in your general direction. Stop that!

Trying To Work Out What You’ll Be When You Grow Up

If you went through school in the ’90s, it’s likely you were being pushed to have an idea of your career trajectory as early as Year 9, when you had to start thinking about your Year 11 and 12 subjects. This can lead to spending your 20s gripped by a crushing state of work-related existential agony if you’ve not “made it” to where 15-year-old you thought you’d be “by now”. But really, 15-year-old you also thought Dougie the pizza guy was hot, what the hell did they know? Take a break from being your own worst guidance counsellor. It’s okay to just let your career unfold. (5)

These 10 Little Things Make Every Man Feel Special…

When it comes to relationships, men and women tend to want the same things – it just seems we want or need them in different ways. For most men, respect and love are synonymous and are weighed the same, but how we show love and respect to a man may not always fall in line with what we women expect from our mate. Small gestures can yield great rewards when dealing with the heart of a man, so applying some of these simple practices can breathe air into your relationship by simply letting him know that you love and appreciate him….just as he is.

Gas him up!

Men like compliments too – so if your man has a killer smile, amazing washboard abs or big biceps – tell him! We all know how great we feel when a man pays us a sincere compliment, so letting your man know that you love his style or the way he walks will make him feel 12 feet tall! Choose something specific, and maybe unexpected, that you find attractive about him, and let him know in a genuine way that you only have eyes for him. Try to tell him 3 things that you love about him every day. He’ll be on Cloud 9 for weeks!

Make him feel needed
Most men like to feel useful – whether it’s fixing the kitchen sink, screwing in a light bulb or solving your crisis at work. I’m not suggesting you nag him to death or bog him down with chores, but find ways to let him know you need him by asking him for his help or his advice every once in a while. Men are great problem solvers, and they truly want to help the woman they love through their challenges. The reason most men shy away from “independent” women is because they sometimes send a message that they don’t “need” a man. But being self sufficient doesn’t mean the men in our lives serve no purpose, so let him be the man and thank him for all that he does on a daily basis.

Stroke his ego in the bedroom
Even if he isn’t the best lover you’ve ever had, make him feel as if he is. Men can be very delicate when it comes to their sexual prowess, and they take pleasing their woman very seriously. Let him know how attracted you are to him sexually, how he turns you on, and what you love about his body. Send him a text saying you can’t wait to get home to him and turn him out, then drink a Red Bull and get ready. He’ll be so turned up you’ll need all your energy to handle the monster you’ve created!

Ask him about his job and praise his accomplishments
Most men take pride in their career and place a certain value on the level of success they’ve achieved. In most cases, men tie success directly to their manhood, and their work gives them a sense of purpose. If they share their achievements with you, it’s because they want to impress you, and show you that they are capable of providing a future for you both – so acknowledge that! Be his biggest cheerleader and give him the admiration and respect he seeks and deserves – the returns will be tenfold.

Ask him about his interests or hobbies as well
All work and no play can make any man a dull boy…so ask him what he likes to do for fun – and be genuine about it. I know for some women, we really couldn’t care less what a touchdown or an RBI is, but it wouldn’t kill us to sit with him while he’s watching the game and ask questions (during the commercial). He’ll be delighted that you’re interested in something he enjoys, and if he is truly digging you, he will gladly share and feel special that you have an interest in HIS interests.

Laugh at his jokes
Men LOVE a woman with a good sense of humor – it shows she doesn’t take life…or herself too seriously. Men also tend to tie their sense of humor to their egos, so if we show them that we get their jokes, and actually think they’re funny, it’s a sign of approval and validation in a fun way. Appreciating a man’s comedic delivery can mean that we understand him, thus creating a connection…and what’s not to love about a person with a funny sense of self?

Cater to him sometimes
If your man has been hard at work or stressed out, rub his neck or give him a nice massage. Draw him a bath or prepare a nice meal for him. Even if you aren’t much of the “domestic” type, catering to your man can simply mean not crowding him as soon as he walks in the door, giving him time to unwind before you launch into a speech about how your day was or what needs to get done around the house. Sometimes realizing that he wants you there, but that he doesn’t feel like talking, is all the catering you need to do. So hand him the remote, let him kick his feet up and be quiet. When he’s ready to talk, ask him how his day was…and listen.

Don’t sweat the small stuff
Not everything in a relationship needs to be over analyzed or beaten down into the ground. So if he unintentionally offends you by not noticing your new hairstyle, let it go. Focus on what he does right instead of harping on everything he does wrong. So he left a glass in the sink…so what??? Be forgiving. Praise his great decisions and minimize his bad ones. Don’t say “I told you so” or take the opportunity to always have the last word. Don’t argue just to hear yourself talk, and don’t focus on always being “right.” Give him the benefit of the doubt and don’t expect him to read your mind. Chances are he really doesn’t know why you’re upset or what he did wrong – and we know that. Just let it go.

Brag about him to your friends
Men love this. Giving him compliments privately is a wonderful thing, but letting the world know how great your man is will having him blushing and wondering how he got so lucky to have a woman like you. Even when he’s not around, let others know what you love and appreciate about your boo. It sets the tone for mutual respect, love and admiration as he will do the same for you unconsciously. It’s easy for us to get complacent in our relationships, so doing a little boasting about your man every once in a while can serve as a reminder of why you love him and just how important he is to you.

Some info collected what we hope are all the essential things you should know about your vagina. It’s not usually a subject we talk about amongst friends, and oft times we are too embarrassed to seek advice from a medical professional. It’s also hard to admit we might be a wee bit ignorant about the most intimate part of our body. Here are the essential things you should know about your vagina.

1. Vulva Variety

The first of the things you should know about your vagina is that there is no right or wrong ‘look.’ The vulva are the outer lips of your vaginal area and every woman’s vulva is different. You might have plump, curvy vulva or thin, elegant vulva. Embrace your shape – all vulva are beautiful and unless you are in discomfort or a porn star, there‘s no reason to consider labiaplasty (vaginal rejuvenation surgery).

2. Pee is for Penis

Men urinate through their penis. However, women do not pee through their vagina. Your bladder empties through the urethral opening, which is under the clitoris and above the vaginal opening.

3. Clots Are Normal

Menstrual blood can sometimes be a bit freaky as it doesn’t flow like blood from elsewhere in the body. This is because the ‘blood’ is actually uterine lining. The womb lining is rich with blood in readiness to make a safe and healthy home for a fetus, so clotted blood is normal during your period. You need not be concerned unless the clots are large, heavy and bleeding is prolonged.

4. Discharge is Normal Too

Another of the things to know about vaginas is that discharge is completely natural, but there’s also no need to be concerned if you don’t have any. The amount of discharge varies greatly from woman to woman and also varies at different times during the menstrual cycle. If, however, you have itching, burning and odor together with discharge, it is best to seek medical attention.

5. Dead End

Your vagina is a two way street but it is a cul-de-sac. The vagina leads to the womb and nowhere else. Anything entering your vagina cannot access anywhere else in your body. If you have lost something in your vagina you can retrieve it but never use any kind of tool. And always, always remember to take out the last tampon of your period, otherwise you put yourself at great risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome – check out info on TSS here:

6. Fall out

One of the facts about vaginas you may not know is that it can “fall out.” In what is known as a pelvic prolapse, your vagina can turn inside out and hang between your legs. But no need to fret – it can be corrected.

7. Like a Virgin

Sorry girls, but once it’s gone, it stays gone. Losing your virginity is a one-time only offer. Losing your virginity refers to the breaking of the hymen, a membrane that partially closes the vagina – and yes, it can be broken by things other than penile penetration, but you remain a virgin until your first act of sexual intercourse.

8. Musclebound

Your vagina is a muscle and contracts and stretches just like other muscles do. And just like other muscles, if you don’t use them, you lose them. Regular sex is enough of a workout, but post-menopause, the fragile vaginal tissue is prone to scarring and shrinking, so if you’re a lady of a certain age and don’t have a partner for a prolonged period of time, it is best to invest in a battery-operated boyfriend.

9. Wow- Stretchy

While on the subject of muscles, the vagina muscle is incredibly stretchy for birthing. This can leave you feeling loose. If your vagina isn’t as tight as you like, or is suffering from being a bit goosey loosey after you’ve had kids, vaginal exercises can do wonders. Known as Kegel exercises, get to work by contracting and relaxing 10 times for 3 sets a few times a day. If you’re not sure, try to stop the flow of urine when you pee – that will demonstrate exactly what you need to be doing.

10. To Douche or Not to Douche?

There is no need to douche. Another of the things to know about your vagina is that it has a signature smell that is unique to you. Why would you want to mask that smell with douches that smell like rose petals or the ocean? If you are douching because you have a particularly strong odor and it is accompanied by discharge, it could be the sign of an infection, so instead of reaching for a douche spray, seek medical advice.

11. Lubrication

You are not abnormal if you need to use lubricant during sex and many women experience this as they age. A dry vagina can make sex uncomfortable and a real turn off. There are plenty of lubricants – synthetics like KY Jelly or natural ones like Astroglide, which is made from coconut oil. Turn your dry problem into fun by using flavored lubes.

12. Ouch

You should not feel pain when you have sex. One of the obvious facts about your vagina is that it is specifically designed for sex. That is its function. Don’t put up with painful sex and do not suffer in silence – see your gynecologist or MD.

13. Ejaculation

One of the controversial facts about vaginas is female ejaculation. Yes, females ejaculate. And again, it doesn’t make you abnormal if you don’t or haven’t yet. There are two explanations of female ejaculation. If your ejaculation is a small amount and of a milky consistency, it is likely a discharge from the paraurethral glands in response to orgasm. If it is a decent amount it is more likely to be urine caused by contractions of the bladder. In many cases it is a combination of both.

14. Orgasms

Not every woman experiences orgasm and few attain it purely from penetration. Orgasm is usually generated by clitoral stimulation either with the fingers or finding the perfect position during penetration. The reason the rabbit vibrator is so successful is because it provides the perfect combination of penetration and clitoral stimulation at the same time.

15. G-Spot

One of the things you should know about your vagina is, although you have a G-Spot, it isn’t always easy to find. Many women spend their sexual lives searching for that elusive sweet spot that is meant to be the key to orgasm. Apparently, the best way to find it is stimulate the front wall of your vagina using come hither motion with your finger. But, if you can’t locate it, it won’t stop you having great sex.

16. Embarrassing Noises

This is one of these unforgiving facts about vaginas. Vaginal farts (aka varts) are normal, healthy and absolutely nothing to worry about – albeit they can be somewhat embarrassing.

17. STIs

Your vagina is precious and you should treat it with respect. Did you know that you can catch sexually transmitted diseases and infections even if you use condoms? During sex, the vulva are exposed to and come into contact with the genital area and scrotum, which may be infected with herpes, genital warts, chlamydia or worse. Rule – choose your partners carefully and seek medical help at the very first sign of any symptoms of an STI.

18. Sex is Healthy

Safe sex is good for you. Sex can put a smile on your face but it can also reduce your risk of heart disease, bolster your immune system, reduce your risk of breast cancer, improve your fitness, help you sleep, lower stress levels, make you appear more youthful and improve your self esteem.

19. Fashion Accessory

Although the vagina is not usually a topic of conversation and is still kept private and under wraps, it has in more recent times become a part of the body where appearance is now more considered. There’s a multitude of choices if you want to “decorate” your vagina – waxing, piercing, tattooing, and shaving. Your choice!

20. Smear Test

The last of the things you should know about your vagina that I want to share with you is about Pap smear tests. Grit your teeth and bear with because it’s important as it tests for cervical cancer. However, bear in mind that what it doesn’t test for is ovarian cancer, uterine cancer or any non-vaginal but connected areas.

21. It Gets Wrinkles Too

As we age, our face isn’t the only thing that does. Our vaginas can develop wrinkles especially as we near age 45 or 50. This happens simply because our skin loses muscle tone and the labia changes in appearance. It becomes less plump, because less estrogen is being produced in the body. The labia are the fatty pads of the vagina that house collagen. Collagen is the fibers of the skin that show wrinkles, or help us look youthful. When estrogen decreases, collagen production dissipates, which leads to wrinkles.

22. It Can Change Colors

Again, our face isn’t the only thing that ages with time. Just like we develop age spots, so does our vagina. The skin of the vulva lighten or darken in color. It’s nothing to be afraid of, and most likely, the change is hardly noticeable.

23. G-spot or C-Spot

The G-spot of the vagina is often discussed as being the spot that causes a woman to orgasm. Men see it as their mission to help find a woman’s G-spot during intercourse, and most women are familiar with their own. Yet, what neither most men or women know, is that although the G-spot is real, it is actually just the clitoris of the vagina and really not some secret hidden part that exists on its own. I guess we should possibly start calling it the C-spot?

I hope you’ve found these facts about vaginas educational.

I’m sure most of you always wondered about the things men notice first in women and you didn’t get an honest answer yet. Well, you should know that men aren’t so hard to understand because they are pretty straight-forward and you could easily find out what things men notice first in women by simply watching them very carefully every time they meet a new lady. According to Dr. Paul Dobransky, the author of The Secret Psychology of How We Fall in Love, “In the first five minutes of meeting someone, it’s generally physical beauty that attracts men. That’s actually the very first step of courtship for them.” But we shouldn’t get him wrong because he also explains that not all men are attracted to supermodels and that every men has his own individual taste in women. So, read on and find out what most men notice first about a woman:

1. Eyes

eye chic

One of the most common things men notice first in women is, of course, their eyes. It is said that the eyes are the windows to your soul so I guess we understand why this is the first thing a man notices about a lady. Usually, eyes tell us a lot about a person. You can find out if that person is lying to you or telling the truth, if it’s a nice person or, on the contrary, someone whom you wouldn’t want to have around you.

2. Smile

womans smiling mouth with teeth image

I’ve read a lot of surveys about the things men notice first in women and in almost all of them, a beautiful smile came second on the list. Well, that’s not very surprising because, after all, who doesn’t like to look at a person with a nice smile? A lot of research has shown that when you first meet someone, no matter where you are, a nice but genuine smile indicates interest. So, try to smile more often because you never know who will fall in love with your smile.

3. Hair

brunette long hair image www.goodgirlsgo (2)

Apparently, another thing most men notice first in a woman is her beautiful and healthy hair. So, maybe all those long hours spent at the hairdresser aren’t in vain after all. Research has shown that most men think that hair which is healthy, stylish, shiny and sleek is a sign of health and youth. Some surveys have shown that men would like to be with someone with natural, long, flowing, soft hair that smells amazing too.

4. Legs

leggy woman on green background image

Well, I’m sure this isn’t a surprise for anyone. Men like long legs and that is one of the things they first notice about a woman, but you should know that in the long term there are other qualities that matter more to them than a nice pair of legs. A study that involved more than 200 men and women “revealed that people whose legs are 5% longer than average are considered the most attractive, regardless of their gender.”

5. Chest

busty sexy brunette in yellow dress image

I’m sure a lot of you thought this is the first thing men would notice when they would first meet a woman. Well, you were wrong; men are not as superficial as you might think. In fact, research has shown that a man does notice a woman’s chest but only after her eyes and her smile. Breasts are considered to be a sign of fertility and youth, so this is more like men’s biological hard wiring, they just can’t help it

6. Dress Sense

fashion minded pair girls image

Perhaps this is quite surprising but you should know that most men do notice a woman’s dress sense. One recent study has even found that men prefer classier dressers to women who show too much of their skin. So, apparently all your efforts of dressing nicely don’t pass unnoticed after all. A great (not necessarily expensive) sense of style tells a lot about a person, so pay a lot of attention to the way you dress because you wouldn’t want to send the wrong message.

7. Skin

Also, you might be surprised to find out that men notice more than all those sexual traits and they do pay attention to the way your skin looks. A lot of surveys have indicated that men see a good complexion as a sign of health. Thus, in their opinion, it’s more likely for a woman with a healthy-looking complexion to be more fertile and to produce healthier offspring.

There are a lot of other things men usually notice when they first meet a woman, things I haven’t mentioned in this list.

So, maybe there is a guy you like and you are looking for ways to catch his attention. You might even be dating him or married to him. Whatever the status is with this guy that has you looking for ways to catch his attention, these ideas will work. It can actually be quite fun trying them out.

1. Smile

One of the very best ways to catch his attention is to smile at him. It sounds too simple to work, doesn’t it? But it actually does work and quite well. The trick is to give him a smile and hold it for several seconds. Don’t be surprised if he even asks you what you are smiling about. Be ready with a good answer!

2. Lean Forward

Leaning forward when a man talks to you can give him the message that you are very interested in what he is saying. And when he knows he has a captive audience, he is certainly going to take notice. Not only will he enjoy your attentiveness but he is very likely to go on talking for quite a while, which is something that most women really enjoy. We all love a guy who wants to open his heart and share his thoughts with us. Letting him know you are paying close attention by leaning forward will help him to do that.

3. Wear Red

This one surprised me a bit but men actually notice women that are wearing red more than women who are not. Maybe this is because men struggle with a degree of color blindness and this bright, bold color is an easy one for their eye to enjoy. Whatever the reason, if you are trying to catch his attention, comb your closet for something red to wear. If you don’t have anything in this color then it just may be time to go shopping. A solid top in this hue is just the ticket here.

4. Wear Your Hair down

If your hair is long, wear it down. Most men, but certainly not all, like long hair. You can get bonus points if you play with a strand of it a bit. This is a great way to catch a man’s attention. You are drawing his attention in and he may just be captivated by you when you do this.

5. Laugh at His Jokes

Most men cannot resist a woman who he can entertain. There is a bit of a little boy in most men. This little boy on the inside loves the challenge of seeing if he can make someone laugh and when you do, he is a happy man. He may keep right on telling jokes to see if he can make you keep right on laughing. Your appreciation of his humor will flatter him.

6. Wink

A flirtatious little wink will certainly catch a man’s attention. It gives him the message that you noticed him and you like what you see. This is a great way to put the ball in a man’s court, too. One little wink isn’t so hard to manage. This is an easy way you can turn it back to him and wait and see what he does next.

7. Don’t Speak First

This is a bit of a game changer. Give a guy your smile and just wait. If you speak first, you lose. If you wait and just continue giving him a pretty smile when he looks your way, you are guaranteed to be noticed. The goal is to get him interested enough that he talks first and strikes up a conversation with you.

Now it’s your turn, ladies. What methods do you use to catch his attention? What has gave you guaranteed success in this area?

If you have a fair complexion you may wonder about beauty tips for pale skin. Porcelain skin is absolutely gorgeous. With these 20 beauty tips for pale skin you can make it even more fabulous.

1. Avoid Neutral Lip Colors

If you have a light complexion it is best to avoid light lip colors. Nudes and light browns won’t do your fair skin any justice. In fact you will look more dead than alive

2. Go for Color

Since we know neutral lip colors are out, what are some beauty tips for pale skin? Women with pale skin look best in bright lipstick. Try reds or corals. Think of Scarlett Johansson with her beautiful porcelain skin and bright ruby lips.

3. Light Eyes

If you have blue or green eyes, than opt for eye shadows that have a blue and green hint to them. Even bold blues and greens will work. These colors will really make your eyes pop

4. Brown Eyes

If you have brown eyes and pale skin you may be wondering about beauty tips for pale skin. Brown eyes look great on pale skin with dark chocolate browns, lavenders, and gray. These colors are sure to make your eyes glimmer.

5. Avoid Neutral Eye Shadow

Pale skin doesn’t do well with neutral eye shadows. Creams and beige will wipe out your complexion instead of giving you dimension. Avoid them at all cost.

6. Eyeliner

If you are having trouble choosing the right eyeliner, keep reading this beauty tip for pale skin. It’s best to go with eyeliner that is a shade or two darker than your eye shadow. One thing is for sure, you never want to go lighter.

7. Mascara

Plain and simple, always choose black mascara. It will help make your eyes pop. Brown or clear mascara won’t do your complexion any good.

8. Test Foundation

The next beauty tip for pale skin deals with picking out the right foundation. Often times I have trouble picking out foundations because the colors look too pink or grey. I suggest taking advantage of the testers. Remember to test the foundation on your face not your hand. Look at the color in the store and out in natural light before making your final decision.

9. Don’t Skip Blush

Ever! It still confuses me why so many women think blush is not a necessity. Blush gives your face color, definition and warmth. Always apply light and add more as needed.

10. Try Bronzer

If you still aren’t sold on the idea of blush at least give a little bronzer a try. Bronzer works best to give you a nice sun-kissed glow when applied to your cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead. These are all spots the sun would naturally hit.

11. Blonde

Many women ask for hair beauty tips for pale skin. If you aren’t a natural blonde, going blonde can be difficult. You really want to work with your stylist to find the perfect blonde for your skin tone. Choosing the wrong color will wash you out horribly.

12. Brunettes and Red Heads

Porcelain skin looks absolutely gorgeous when paired with dark brown, reds, and even black. Debra Messing is a perfect example of someone with fair skin that looks incredibly beautiful with red fiery locks.

13. No Light Clothes

Unless you want to look naked from a distance, I strongly urge you not to wear whites and creams. The colors are too light and will blend in with your skin tone.

14. Go with Bold Colors

Just like with everything else our beauty tips for pale skin suggest you go bold. Your light complexion means you can pull off red and coral colors. Don’t feel overwhelmed by the thought. Try adding a few more bold colors to your wardrobe.

15. Skin Care

No beauty tips for pale skin list would be complete without skin care advice. It’s important to remember to always wash your face and remove any makeup at night before bed. A good skin care regimen helps to prevent breakouts.

16. Sunscreen

Fair skin is more likely to burn in the sun. Even when you think the risk for a burn isn’t likely, you still need to wear sunscreen. It is especially important to apply sunscreen to your face every day. Sun damage will age your skin causing dark spots, uneven complexion and wrinkles. Don’t let the sun ruin your beautiful fair skin.

17. Hide Red

If your skin is irritated or you have a blemish it’s going to show on your skin. You can easily hide these red flaws by covering with a green tinted concealer. The green neutralizes the red.

18. Even out Complexion

If your skin is already showing signs of damage from the sun consider micro-dermabrasion. Micro-dermabrasion works by removing the top layer of your skin to reveal a new layer that is fresher and less damaged. If you can’t afford the spa treatment try an at-home kit.

19. Healthy Diet

You wouldn’t think a healthy diet would be a part of beauty tips for fair skin, but it is. Fresh fruits and veggies do wonderful things for your skin. Foods like apples, papaya and leafy greens are packed with essential vitamins to give your skin a healthy appearance.

20. Water

If we are going to talk about food, we can’t forget water. You need to always drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Water helps hydrate the skin from the inside. Don’t forget to drink your water.

Over all, the beauty tips for pale skin can easily be summed up. First you need to have a good diet and drink lots of water. Second follow a good skin care regimen to keep your skin clean and clear of breakouts. And finally don’t be afraid of color when applying makeup, choosing hair color, or picking out clothes. What are some of your favorite beauty tips for pale skin?

I hear so many of my friends talking about how they met a guy and had wonderful sex and then the guy only calls or comes by when he wants sex. OK honey what you need to know is that what you had with him was a physical attraction that magnified feelings of a deeper nature. Now let me make myself clear he is not a bad guy, for the most part, he was simply thinking “it’s just sex what’s the harm in that”. So here are some super signs to look for to see if it is just sex:

1. Every Time You See Each Other It’s Only to Have Sex

So many women and men are having this type of relationship thinking that it’s more and it’s not. It’s Just Sex.

2. Only Comes over at Night

They call you around 10 pm or later asking if you can come over or if they can come over around midnight. A lot of people think “oh they are just really busy” no they are calling for a booty call. It’s Just Sex.

3. Doesn’t Want to Go out Anywhere

Yes staying at home is nice sometimes but there is a whole world outside of the bedroom. It’s Just Sex

4. Never Talks about Family and Friends

Think, do you even know if their parents are alive, do they have siblings. If you don’t know it might just be sex

5. Doesn’t Want to Hear about Your Family and Friends

Are you bummed out about your family and want to talk about it and they don’t want to hear about it. It could be just sex

6. Phone Conversations or Text Messages

Are Only in a Sexual Nature

Do you only swap sexy texts or photos? Some relationships are like this but others are Just Sex.

7. You Only Meet at Places Where Sex Can Occur

Only going to their house/apartment or vice verse might just be sex.

8. No Sleepovers

They come over at midnight have sex and then around 2 am they want to go home or send you home. Oh yeah it’s just sex.

9. You Don’t Eat Together

Ever hear that old saying “a couple that eats together stays together”.

10. They Take a Shower Right after Sex and

Send You on Your Way

Normally you want to rest a bit and maybe talk. When they all of a sudden they want you to leave it’s probably just sex.

11. Never Talk about Life outside the Bedroom

There are so many other things going on that you could talk about.

12. You Only Have a Cell Phone or Beeper Number

It could be Just Sex

13. When You Talk It’s Only to Setup a Sex Time

Ever call then and setup a time to meet and you end up having sex. It’s Just Sex.

14. They Avoid You in Public

You see them and you know they saw you and they turn away. It’s Just Sex.

15. Only Spends a Couple of Hours with You

Only spend enough time with you to have sex. Then It’s Just Sex.

16. There is No Quality Time

No matter how busy he says he is, if was serious about the two of you he’d make an effort to spend time with you outside the bedroom.

17. He Keeps His Distance

He makes sure the two of you never get too close emotionally by keeping things from you. If you tell him you like it when he does a certain something, he’ll stop because he wants to keep things casual emotionally.

18. He Tells You so

Has he ever straight-up told you that he’s not interested in anything serious and just wants to play the field? He wouldn’t be saying these things if it weren’t true!

19. You Initiate All Communication

If it’s not about sex, all communication is likely to come from you. Are you the only one suggesting dates? Are you the only one who tries to start a real conversation when the two of you are together?

20. He Doesn’t Care if He Hurts Your Feelings

If you get visibly upset about the lack of communication or closeness between you two and doesn’t care, he probably doesn’t care about you, either.

21. He Cheats

Or should I say he has multiple sex partners that he’s not very private about. If the guy is openly having sex with multiple partners, it is definitely not a relationship.

There is nothing worse than falling for a guy only to find out that he wasn’t ever really into you in the first place. It can be heart breaking and embarrassing, especially if everyone else noticed his non interest before you did.

Here are ten signs that will alert you that he’s just not that into you.

1. He Avoids Eye Contact

Body language is an important way that people communicate without words. If he has a hard time looking you in the eye, he isn’t connecting on a deep level. This is a major red flag!

2. He Doesn’t Call

If a guy is really into you, he will want to talk to you. This means that you can expect an occasional call “just because.” If he doesn’t call, watch out!

3. He Doesn’t Touch You

When a guy likes a girl, he typically looks for an excuse to touch her or to be physically close. If he backs away when you touch him or if he doesn’t initiate contact, he might not like you.

4. He is Distracted

When you are together, does he tune you out? If he is busy watching the game instead of listening to what you are saying, that’s not a good sign.

5. He Talks about Other Girls

If he makes comments about other girls being attractive, then he is definitely not taking your feelings into consideration. This is a major clue that he doesn’t like you as more than a friend.

6. He Won’t Let You Meet His Mom

When a guy is serious about a girl, he will usually take her to meet his mom. This is a rite of passage for every girlfriend to see if she meets his mom’s approval. If it doesn’t occur to him to take you home to see his family, he probably doesn’t like you.

7. He Doesn’t Return Your Texts

If you text him and he doesn’t answer, it’s not a good sign. When a guy is really interested in a girl, he jumps at a chance to have any kind of contact, whether it is by phone, text, email, or in person.

8. He Would Rather Hang out with Friends

If he prefers hanging out with the guys over spending time with you, he probably isn’t that into you. You should be his first priority.

9. He Turns You down

If you invite him out for a movie and he turns you down without a good reason, you better be careful! This is an obvious clue that he isn’t feeling it.

10. He’s Disrespectful

In case you didn’t get the clue already, this is the final nail in the coffin. If he treats you disrespectfully in any situation, then he isn’t into you and he isn’t worth your time.

Use these clues to know for sure if your guy is into you. If you notice more than two of these red flags, it might be time to look for a new crush. What are some other signs you have noticed when a guy just isn’t into you?
